Athletes Ages 9-13 will train in a variety of track and field disciplines from Long jump, shot put to hurdles distance running, sprints and many other events. The priority for our Junior Development athletes is FUN. Penticton track and field takes a “fun first” approach to all of our training sessions. Not only do athletes learn technical skills, but they also participate in fun group games at most practices.
Coaches structure their lesson plans to promote progression technically in all events through repetition and reinforcement with the intention of producing multi-skilled, well-rounded athletes as they mature in their track and field careers.
Competition: There is a series of sanctioned of junior development track meets (ages 9-13) throughout May, June and July that allow athletes of all levels to compete. Athletes are encouraged to choose at least one run, jump and throw event to compete in at meets attended. Competing in meets is not mandatory but highly recommended as a way to develop comfort with performing in a competitive environment. Coaching will focus on performance improvement and athletes will receive instruction for all events that they will compete in.
